Statement
When I first became passionate about photography, I was interested in vivid colours and beautiful rural landscapes. I had a very commercial taste in imagery, I was drawn to a deep red sunset or the tones of a green lush forest. That said, when I started my degree at Derby I quickly developed a different style to my own work. My interest shifted to the subtlety of Black & White photography, the expanse of tones and textures that you can portray with Black & White is endless.
My work has a constant essence of natural beauty, I am still intrigued by the shapes and angles that can be found in nature. I have a love of photographing flowers and I am also fascinated by the human body and the space and environments that we, as humans, live in.
Interestingly in the past six months, I have become interested in colour Photography again and have taken all of the techniques and skills that I have learnt over the past three years into colour analogue practice and have found a new passion. I still look at a composition as I would if I was going to photograph it in Black and White but when I take the photograph in colour, it produces a wonderful contrast. The softness of the tones, but with vivid splashes of colour at the same time. I am really enjoying my new found passion for colour.
